Anitviral ~ Monolaurin; Natural Replacement for Valcyte?!

Update:  Monolaurin did not work for me, so I tried Valcyte.

WARNING:  Valcyte has been shown to cause CANCER in Lab Rats.

My Infectious disease doctor just put me on, what she deemed to be a far less toxic antiviral (after telling her I still have antibodies toward HHV-6, which is not genital herpes or cold sores) called, Symmetrel.  So far, it is really helping with my fatigue.  It may however be disturbing my sleep.

I was at the docs the other day, and asked about receiving treatment for cytomegalovirus http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cytomegalovirus, Epstein-Barr (from mono) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Epstein-Barr_virus, and herpes.  I knew that Valcyte, was a new and promising antiviral out that treated HHV-6 and Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV).  (This can be found in Dr. Teitelbaums's book From From Fatigued to Fantastic, p.140)  Upon asking about receiving treatment with Valcyte, my doctor immediately said that their is a safer, more effective alternative to Valcyte.  He told me that he has seen great results with the use of the natural remedy called Monolaurin.

At any rate, if you click on the Monolaurin link you will be able to read more about it.  It is an anti-virus supplement, that is supposed to be good for the immune system, does not destroy friendly bacteria, Extracted from Coconut Oil, and is good for both one-time and long-term preventative uses.

I started it about a week ago and perhaps it is helping!  We shall see in the long run...  : )  Dr. Teitelbaum also states that in one study, almost 89% of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) Patients, had very high HHV-6 IgG antibody levels.  He goes on to say that HHV-6 inhibits the immune systems natural killer cells, normally fight off virus' and infections.

Herpes Inducing Foods

Certain foods contain an amino acid, called Arginine, which the herpes virus thrives off of. Most foods contain some Arginine, but, some foods have extremely high levels and these foods should be avoided to prevent herpes outbreaks. Food that are high in argine include, Nuts, Chocolate and Caffeine. These foods can aggravate the herpes virus and induce an outbreak, so, should be excluded. A list of other foods high in Arginine can be found at http://www.globalherbalsupplies.com/herpes/herpes_diet_information.htm

Treating Herpes Naturally

Lysine is a great way to treat and prevent herpes. It is an amino acid that can be taken as a preventative or to treat an outbreak once it has occurred. Some people who get herpes can tell the day before an outbreak that they are fighting the virus. It would be most wise to take Lysine at this time to prevent the outbreak from occurring, or to take it ongoing to prevent future outbreaks.

The Feeling full and Energized Supplement, Chromium

Ok~if you have fibromyalgia you might also have issues with hypoglycemia. I do! It is pretty bad. Eating small meals through the day helps to balance my blood sugar levels. And, staying away from processed foods and foods that are off the blood type diet (and gluten), also helps me to stay energized and prevents hypoglycemia. But, if you are doing all that you can with diet and still need help....or haven't got to the diet part yet....then, I recommend trying chromium to balance blood sugar levels. Taking it instantly raises your blood sugar level, decreasing fatigue and hunger. I also take it at night to help me sleep, since, hypoglycemia is a huge factor that contributes to my insomnia. And, sometimes, I take it in the morning a few hours before I get up to help me sleep stay asleep in the morning too. This supplement is a mainstay in my collection of supplements.

Herpes and Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue

WARNING:  VALCYTE has been shown to cause CANCER in Lab Rats.

My Infectious disease doctor just put me on, what she deemed to be a far less toxic antiviral (after telling her I still have antibodies toward HHV-6, which is different than genital herpes and cold sores) called, Symmetrel.  So far, it is really helping with my fatigue.  It may however be disturbing my sleep.

Herpes may be an associated cause of fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome. If you have herpes and consistently get out breaks, get treated. The stress that your body is going through to fight this virus could be lifted, thus releasing energy in your body for your healing. Valtrex is used to treat herpes. And, Valcyte is a new medication that is now being used in Fibromyalgia and Fatigue treatment centers.
